VERTICAL INTENSIVE The Vertical Intensive is the standing application of Pilates and the third level in the Complete Mat Work Training. Packed with challenging exercises, this workshop will provide you with a new dimension to movement education and Pilates-based conditioning. We begin with Foundation exercises that focus on leg alignment, balance and the “how to’s” of finding support on one leg. The exercises build in complexity and difficulty that increasingly require a finely tuned sense of counter-balancing throughout the body. We will also explore key movement principles of Rudolf Laban and Hubert Godard so you leave with a rich context within which to introduce your participants to Vertical Pilates.

POSTURE & GAIT In this two-day intensive workshop you will analyse posture and gait mechanics from both a structural and functional perspective. We start with an overview of archetypal “ideal” and “faulty” postures and review the structural underpinnings of each. We observe posture in three distinct ways so you leave with a dynamic understanding of how to observe your clients when they stand or sit. We move from there into an analysis of human gait that traces our patterns of ambulation form our feet, up through our legs and hips, into the pelvis and up the length of the spine into the shoulders. Based on the Spinal Engine theory of Gracovetsky, this workshop helps you see gait mechanics as a whole body experience. Your power of observation and your understanding of how movement is integrated as we walk will expand dramatically. You will leave with a completely new way of seeing bodies in motion and a new repertoire of simple exercises that have profound effects on both our postural patterns and gait mechanics.

NEUROPHYSIOLOGY of PILATES Our nervous system is a vital underpinning to our daily movement and function and yet it remains the most elusive and least understo od of the bodily systems. The nervous system is our information superhighway that controls all the information that we take from our environment and integrates it into meaningful functional movement. Through the manipulation of sensory input we can effect a change in the structural organization of the nervous system and thus how we move. In this way, the brain’s structure becomes the information that it receives.
This 2-day workshop is based on the latest research on the brain and how it can adapt and change its structure in response to information. You will gain a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system as well as the system pathways responsible for both perceiving our environment and moving within our environment.
An appreciation of the neurological underpinnings of movement will help your cuing become more powerful in order to affect the responses you want in your clients. You will also learn how to design exercises that better access the nervous system to facilitate improved motor control and awareness.

Caitlin Bovée BA & Sc lives to move. Athletic from a young age Caitlin has always enjoy team sports, solo activities as well as movement and dance. She began teaching fitness at the age of 18 through the YMCA/YWCA and ACE and continued to delve deeper into movement therapies throughout her twenties while completing a bachelors of arts and science from the University of McMaster. In her early twenties she completed her Matwork and Equipment training at Body Harmonics, Toronto. Caitlin focused on rehabilitation throughout her Pilates and fitness training . She has trained with Margot McKinnon (Toronto), Marie Jose Blom Lawrence (Long Beach, California), Eric Franklin , Brent Anderson (Polestar, Miami Florida) and countless others to develop her skills at assessing a clients’ movement patterns and helping her clients create efficient and pain free movement. At the age of 25, Caitlin experienced a stroke on her right side. She received the chance to use her post rehabilitation knowledge on herself. Those years of recovery gave Caitlin an inside view of the process of rehabilitation. Though difficult, Caitlin looks upon her stroke as a life changing event which has been a teacher and provided her with an immense education. After years of practice, Caitlin Bovée works primarily with post rehabilitation clients referred from Guelph chiropractors and physiotherapists. As well she offers a class specific to Stroke survivors through the Guelph stroke recovery association. In 2009, Caitlin was nominated for a Women of Distinction award through the YMCA/YWCA of Guelph by her clients and colleagues.
