As the weather gets nicer, you may be feeling the itch to move a little more.  This May, we challenge you to

#walkforhealth and support the MS society of Guelph Wellington.

Walking more is good for your health so we have created two challenges so everyone can participate at a level that works for their lifestyle, health and goals.

1)      Walk 10,000 steps each day.  Record it on your phone, fitbit or other devises and post it on social media (facebook or Instagram) with the hashtage #walkforhealthguelph

2)      Choose the # of steps that will get you moving more.   Commit to walking that amount each day and enjoy the benefits walking more can bring.

Walk With Us This May: #walkforhealthguelph

Spring finally showed up, and we want to get you outside and moving with us. This May, Pilates in Guelph is running our Walk for Health challenge, and there's a spot for you whether you're lacing up for the first time in months or you already clock a few kilometres before breakfast.

Here's how it works. You can take on one challenge or both, whatever fits your life right now. Start by downloading a pledge form from www.pilatesinguelph.com/walkforhealthguelph. Share it with friends, family, coworkers, your neighbour who's always out gardening, anyone who might want to back you. Collect your pledges through May, then drop your completed form off at the studio in June. Every submitted form gets entered to win a month of free mat Pilates at Pilates in Guelph. Not a bad reward for a few good walks.

We'll be right there with you along the way. Every Wednesday in May, I'll be posting a tip to help you walk better. Walking seems simple until you start paying attention to it. How your feet land, what your hips are doing, whether your shoulders are creeping up toward your ears, how you breathe on a hill. Small changes can make a walk feel easier and leave you less sore the next day, and a lot of what we practice on the mat carries straight over to the sidewalk.

I'll also be writing a blog on Pilates and MS, with exercises you can try at home. Pilates can be a great fit for people living with MS because it focuses on core strength, balance and control, and it's easy to adapt to where your body is on any given day. Many of the moves can be done lying down or seated, so they're approachable even when energy is low. If you or someone you love is living with MS, keep an eye out for that post.

So grab your pledge form, pick your route, and bring a friend if you can. Snap a photo while you're out there and tag it #walkforhealthguelph so we can cheer you on. We can't wait to see where your walks take you this May.
